Coaching for Personal and Professional Change and Development

My approach combines applied psychotherapeutic approaches with coaching principles and techniques. I reached the conclusion some time ago, that this was an effective way of supporting individuals to bring about change. Self-awareness and deep self-understanding enable us to see the world differently and make different decisions about how we want to life our live. Many of the issues that bring people to therapeutic coaching are to do with work or home relationships, difficulties with work, a loss of meaning or a sense of a loss of one's way, stress or grief (including that associated with the loss of job, status, youth), a sense that there is a disconnection between the inner person and the life that is being lived, plus a desire to connect better with the inner self.

My approach is:

Non-directive
Confidential
Aimed at liberating the creative imagination and inner resources
Aimed at enabling you to do the very best thinking and reflection you can
Supportive to your endeavour and challenging to your assumptions and habitual ways of thinking
Aimed at working at a deep level of your inner-self and how you have become who you are
Intended to explore your sense of yourself and to connect with what really matters to you
Focused on the here and now, the 'there and then' of the past, and the future
Freeing and enabling

Unlike psychotherapy, sessions tend to be 1.5 or 2 hours in length, every 2 - 6 weeks, so that you have time to reflect and act on what emerges in the sessions. We may agree to work together over 4 - 6 sessions or longer; we may agree to keep working with a longer interval between sessions. I recommend clients keep a reflective journal during the work and also find ways to connect with nature, through walking or other activities.
